Birthday Traditions

We believe that the day you were born is special and should be celebrated in a unique way!  There are many birthday traditions;

often different families and different cultures make their own traditions.  We want to share some of the favourite

traditions that our family and friends have passed from many generations.  We hope you will enjoy our collection.

And Also we are happy to offer you more ideas about celebrating birthdays like:

Birthday verses     Funny Birthday Greetings     Birthday Message     First Birthday Party Ideas

Pastor Dave, pastor of our church, likes to bless everybody with their own personal cake the Sunday following their birthday and this is accompanied by a  special blessing...also they sing the song  "we hope you live to be a hundred, we hope you live to be a hundred, we hope you live to be a hundred a hundred years or more.....In the last couple of month we have had a special lady, Hannah, who is only 4 years old wanting to bring the cake up front.....it is very sweet to see that little one getting involve with all her heart.....I hope she feels blessed also!

Placing money in the cake (you need to wrap the money in stretch and seal) whoever finds the money gets to keep it! So I guess the bigger piece of cake you eat the better chance you have to get the money....I would say that this is a good deal......

You get to pick your favourite food to eat for the day, so if  you are celebrating and your favourite food is bologna sandwich....everybody get bologna sandwich.  One of our friend, Aldeo would probably want pork shops and then more pork shops, he just loves it!  I myself would probably pick a peanut butter sandwich..

Some of our friends celebrate with firework, it makes for a very delightful even, no doubt! Thanks Carla for sharing!

Dad always tells a few jokes, so we are able to get a few good laugh....One of my favourite age joke would have to be about the 2 elderly ladies driving:  The first one says:  You just when through a red light....so the other sweet one (the driver of the car) says:  Oh....was I driving......lol

Butter the nose of the person celebrating, I remember doing this is school, I never got my buttered cause I had my birthday in the summer time....but I remember buttering many of my friends

You don’t have to do any chores on that day...and each of the other family members have to pitch in and do them for you!

You are given an amount of money that is the same as your age (so if you are 16 years old you get $16.00).....I can't wait to be 100!

Everybody pinches you to grow an inch ouch that could hurt as you get older!

You can have your favourite pie instead of cake....they put the candles on the pie and you still get to blow them out

Each one gets to hide the present they bought for the celebrant....and then he/she as to find it...so you get to kind of play hide and go seek

Our friend, Diane would get strawberry shortcake instead of cake.  Lucky her!....This is what I've decide for my birthday....my mom made the shortcake, they were good!

The Cormier family,18 children and their spouse about 55 grand-children and most of them with their spouse and many great-grand-children, so about 125 members all together.  On theirs mom birthday  they go to the old homestead farm. And get a photograph of all the group.

We like to give beaded angels to everybody we know who is celebrating another year older.  These angels are created for mother, grand-mother, daughter and can be hung on their window.  We do craft sale and we serve people doing bus tours from a cruise ship, so we notify the tour guide and if there is anybody celebrating on the bus they get there little angel and at the same time it is good PR

This is a tradition shared by a friend/cousin, Joyce. " For our birthdays our mom would make a "Washington pie cake recipe", from all our  favourite cake recipes made from scratch, and in the bottom layer she would wrap a few things in wax paper and put them in. a ring, usually her wedding ring, some thread about a foot long, a penny, nickel or dime, a button, a safety pin. It was kind of fun to see who would get what".  As each think had a different meaning!

One of the latest traditions from around the world would be to send your best wishes by facebook message

One of our favourite restaurant that we like to go to, on our anniversaries (even wedding anniversaries).  They come out with a piece of cake and a bunch of the waiters are singing...I don't know but I been told, one of you is getting old..happy, happy, birthday to you.  And for kids, they also give out them a balloons.

Our daughter, gives out loot bags for her daughters birthday parties....kid's love these

Make a party at a local bowling alley, the kids really love this kind of party!

One of the oldest and probably most important  birthday traditions from around the world would be the celebration of the birth of Jesus, which we celebrate on December 25th....we would like to share with you some of our friends and our very own Christmas Traditions.

An old time tradition for the Julien family, would be who could give greetings to the celebrant first.....this was my boyfriend's, Aldeo, mom's parents, and he figures this would of taken place over 70 years ago....so maybe around year 1930-1940

When our brother-in-law, Bernie, celebrates is own birthday, he gives a gift to his mom to thank her for giving birth to him Instead of giving a gift to the one who is celebrating....you make a donation to a good, cause, or you can even sponsor a child for a year.....

I remember as a little girl, each year my mom would take a picture of us with our birthday cake and we would lift our fingers up to show how old we were.

( We probably did that until we were 10 years old)

Probably one of the most fun traditions....and maybe in a way complicated....would be a surprise birthday party!

Another real fun tradition would be to have a corn boil to celebrate....and we should even add cheap.....this is a way to feed 20 people for under $50.00....and that  even includes real butter for the corn!

Giving fresh cut flowers as a gift is a very sweet traditions that some of our friends do

Singing a birthday songs.....like "Happy birthday to you"... to a new born baby, on the day of his arrival......

One traditions that we have noticed is that when someone celebrates 100 years old...it is often announce during the local new

Let's talk about balloons.... Who doesn't like them?  What about a balloon for each year you are celebrating!

Birth announcement.....Lots of people announce the birth of their babies in the local news paper...and even in one of our local newspaper people get

to put there babies picture if they where born in that year.....so usually that special inserts comes out and the end of the year with all the babies that where born...

Maybe not the best of traditions but we use to do it a long time ago.....you would drink as many beers as you were old......I don't ever remember

being able to drink more than 8 beers in one night.....so I guess I would of had to do this at the age of 8.....

Slaps on your behind that is equal to your age, plus 1 to make you grow (if your 4 years old you get for 5 slaps) ouch for this one too!

Something that's been around for a long time would be giving greeting cards to wish the special person with words how you feel.....if you want to make your own cards and need some fresh ideas check out other pages within our collection; what to write in a card, birthday message, verses, poems, mom poems, love poems, greetings, quotes, aunt's and uncle messages,.....another fun and easy way to send bday wishes would with be sending a text messages....

We haven't decide if it is a traditions or not but this is the way it goes....and as I'm getting older it sure sounds good to me.....one of our friends...we want name her but we are sure she will know who she is if she reads this, anyways she has decided that she would not get any older than 43 year old.....she as been doing so for about 14 years know.....

We caught this joke on facebook and just thought it was very funny:

Bob forgot his wife's birthday. His wife was mad. She told him "Tomorrow morning, I expect to find a gift in the driveway that goes from 0 to 200 in 6 seconds AND IT BETTER BE THERE!!!" The next morning when his wife woke up, she looked out the window to find a box… gift-wrapped in the middle of the driveway. She opened it and found a brand new bathroom scale. . . Bob has been missing since Friday!
